January 2012:
WP4 (Learning by reflection and observation) investigates how individuals learn by reflecting on their own work practices and by observing and reflecting on others’ work practices, and aims to support both learning activities technically. In the last months, WP4 was involved mainly in development tasks, and is currently involved in developing the following Apps:
- Task Detection App. The Task Detection App shall support time management.
- Moodmap App. The Moodmap App shall support awareness of own and others' mood especially during virtual meetings.
- Patient-Relative-Talks App The Patient-Relative-Talks App shall support the documentation of and reflection on conversations between medical personnel and patients or their relatives.
A downloadable version, user trials and evaluations are upcoming for all above Apps. All these Apps have in common that they contain an activity capturing component (nearly fully automated in the Task Detection App, manual entries in the Moodmap App and Patient-Relative-Talks App), maintain a history per user on data and offer selected aggregations / visualisations on such data that shall ease a review of own activities. As such, the user histories take a first step towards automatically maintained user profiles and Apps that expose the user profiles in a meaningful way to the users - our reflective learners. Our next steps will be evaluations as to the Apps' usability, and usefulness to our targeted end users (for each App in at least one testbed), and following-up re-design and new functionalities.
